Greek Heritage month at the TDSB kicked off at Presteign and it was a remarkable event. From the preparations leading up to the event, to the wonderful work that the children put in, I couldn't be more proud of our school.
Ms. Ritsakis' class teamed up with us to create structures of Ancient and modern Greece. The students first looked through a plethora of books and chose the structures that they wanted to build. From there they drew up their blueprints and created their design. Afterwards, they were given materials to build their structures. We had 6 different structures: the Parthenon, the Olympic Stadium, the ancient theatre of Dionysus, the agora (mall/market), and the current museum.
The students worked in groups to make the beautiful structures that you'll see in the pictures.
The students also got to work on the iPads to research and write about their structures.
Additionally, our class worked on making a presentation for the performance. Unfortunately due to technical difficulties it did not work during Monday's performance. Below you will find the link to the presentation (it's not the edited/complete version, but feel free to have a look): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sG51MlGoJY
The students did a fantastic job presenting the achievements that the Greek culture gave to Western civilization and to our modern world.
Overall, our hard work paid off and it was a great success.
The closing ceremony/presentation will be held on March 28th at East York Collegiate. All are welcome to attend and some of our performers will be there showing off their talent.
April is Hispanic Heritage Month. May is Asian and Jewish Heritage Month, and June is Italian and Portuguese Heritage Month.
